Lesson 10 Wrap up

Yahoo! I made it. This deserves a big pat on the back because I was starting to wonder when it came close to deadline and I had several units to go. I going to try to continue to blogging because this way I can practice what I have learned. Will I use everything I have learned? I will try but at least now when someone asks me something about the web, I will know it is not my little hairy 'Wiki' creature jumping at me. I will not have that dumb look on my face about having no clue what they are talking about. The key now is trying to remember it all. That is were practice will come in. Maybe I will try to schedule some time each week to 'play' around and practice what I have learned. Thanks for the knowledge and opportunity.

Wikis

Let me start out by saying I have always wondered what was a Wiki. Was it some little creature on the internet or was it from some movie like 'Star Wars'? Who is this Wiki? Well, I now know what Wiki is. It is not some little hairy creature who is going to pop up on my computer screen at any moment.

Wikis seems to be a very useful tool. It prevents a lot of email chaos. The information can not get lost in the email world. I am not sure if I will use it in the library because I am the only employee. I could use it with groups of people. Maybe I will try it with planning fundraisers for our library. Who knows, may have to wait and see?

Tagging/Bookmarking

I find this would be helpful to someone who does a lot of bookmarking. It can be helpful but not to sure about it because of the privacy issue. You have to be careful what you bookmark. I am not too sure if I am comfortable with this because of privacy. However it would be a good way to access web sites that have been bookmarked from different computers instead of trying to remember where you saw something. I have worked with tagging before regarding photos. It is easy for a quick search.

Social networking

This was an easy unit for me because, I admit it, I have an account with Facebook. I really enjoy because I have found classmates, friends, and family members that I have spoken to in years. You can create groups so this would be nice to create group with other librarians.

Office 2.0

This will be very handy. Now instead of being frustrated about being able to open a document because you do not have the right version, everyone who uses Office 2.0 will have the same version. This will be helpful if i ever need to look up a document and am not at the library. If we were a bigger library, I think this would be handy. I did not realize that this was even out there.

internet video

I enjoy this a lot better than podcasts.

This is my one of my favorite podcasts because if you look at the background you will see a truck with the paint missing. Yes, that is my husband's work truck. It happened that the day this was film, the person running for office was inside the building talking with us. I ran across this video by accident one time. I can see using youtube in the library by helping promote reading or even the library.

Podcasts

I have found that Podcasts is probalby my least favorite subject so far. I had a hard to concentrating on this unit. I did not mind the vodcasts but did not find too much that would pertain to the library. If anyone has any good ideas about implementing podcasts or vodcasts, I am open to any. I think probalby if I had probalby had to pick a favorite, I would say the vodcasts that were about cooking. I like to cook and like to learn how to do new ways of cooking.
